Update 0.2 Information!
Hello all! Just a quick update for what I’ve been working on. Update 0.2 is coming along pretty well, and as is always the case I’ve opted to take on 4 massive projects for this update cycle.
Mining Station
This is easily the largest mission in terms of content I’ve ever designed, and is meant to further expand upon the lore of the game while providing an environment for the game’s graphics to really stretch their legs (but don’t worry, still running at 1440p 60 FPS on my dogsh*t macbook). I’m putting a lot of time into making this entire mission as atmospheric as possible, so lots of funky ambient SFX and other stuff.
LTC-20S “Skimmer”
This update’s obligatory new ship, and the first to use a fragmented modeling pattern. What this means TLDR is it’s model is actually decent (gasp) and looks pretty damn good. Very proud of this one. It’s main gimmick is hover drive, supplanting it’s landing gear. This system can either pull from the main engines or an internal helicon to get it’s power, so there’s a little complexity attached to it. Aside from that, the ship also possess a full ABE suite, a fairly lightweight frame, and a couple other funky experimental features due to it’s military origins.
AC220 Rework #4
Ladies, gentlemen, and other gender-based states of matter, the AC220 is up for it’s quarterly remodel. This is the FOURTH iteration of this godforsaken ship, and it is finally getting a full facelift. The exterior has been completely redone, as has the interior, all with new trimsheets and better geometry. I’m pretty proud of this one.
Inventory, Item, and Component Rework
Suffering in it’s most distilled form. I’ve reworked the entire inventory system, as well as the entire component system to work off of a much more robust foundation. That said, it’s very jank and needs a lot of polish, and thus will more than likely be the main release blocker. I’m very bad at prioritizing things. One of the biggest draws from this however is the potential for future YAML-based modding support, but that’s far in the future.
Overall, this is a big one. I’m looking to get it out to yall ASAP (to hopefully avoid the turnaround for the 0.1 update) but exam season is upon me so I don’t have a ton of time. That said, most of the updates features are fairly close to being finished, but QA and bugtesting takes a long ass time. See yall hopefully soon when I get the first version out!
